“Con-aissance”
In French, connaissance describes one’s understanding of something: how much he knows, or whether or not he knows anything at all. On the other hand, a con is a jerk: an ass, a scoundrel. This song describes the process of getting to know someone more and more and eventually discovering that this person is really just a con.
Being an ass, however, is not necessary just nature: in fact, it’s normally nurture. Separating someone from his original environment can be fatal, but it can also be a means to a better end. Simply existing outside of one’s home, despite its drawbacks—comfort, money, health—often ends up making someone a better person than he was before. You don’t need everything else, “You’ve got everything you need right here”.
